Additionally, we will have a presentation at noon highlighting some of our most popular Synergy Blends line of OTC nutritional items to explain what they contain and how they work. I will open and close with a Q & A session to discuss any of your health related questions and share my simple recipes for healthy eating.
I will prepare a free hot lunch with vegan options and will be offering 30% off ALL OTC items purchased in the store on that day.
While no RSVP will be needed, please call 847-419-9898 and speak with Jay or me about 1 week in advance if you'd like to stock up on any of the OTCs you get at Mark Drugs so we can have it set aside for you on that day.

This show's topic: "PMS and Menopause, Solving the Puzzles!"
My guest for October 3, 2015 will be Linaya Hahn. I have known Ms. Hahn for 20 years and I have used her original book, PMS, Solving the Puzzle, as part of the pharmacy student, Women's Health rotation segment at Mark Drugs for most of that time. She has written a new and updated book titled "PMS and Menopause, Solving the Puzzles".
Linaya has been a long-time proponent of women's health and is the author of the book "PMS, Solving the Puzzle". Having been plagued with chronic PMS symptoms through her child bearing years, she sought answers when there were typically none readily available. As she has entered the next stage of her life she has sought ways to address not only PMS but Menopause symptoms as well.
She likes to say that there are only two things that can be said about these conditions.
1. They’re real.
2. Women don’t have to have them.

ALCAT is an acronym for antibody leukocyte cellular antigen test. The ALCAT test is a food sensitivity test which looks for an inflammatory response between your WBC’s and specific foods, molds, food colorings, herbs, chemicals etc. This inflammation in turn is can be responsible for migraine headaches, IBS, fatigue, urticaria and any disease state with an underlying cause of inflammation. By eliminating these foods we can reduce inflammation.

Interview: Jori Eisenstein Rosen
Topic: Treatment of Chronic Veterinary Health Issues
Radio Station: 1160 AM WYLL - Chicago
My guest was one of the daughters, Jori Eisenstein Rosen, of my late mentor and co-host, Dr. Mayer Eisenstein.

Jori recognized a gap in canine and feline nutrition that has had a negative impact on pet health. She feels that many chronic diseases such as feline diabetes, can possibly be reversed with the use of some of these supplements. Jori has been working with her brother, Jeremy, in developing a superior, cost-effective line of specialty veterinary nutritionals that address these chronic veterinary health issues.

Jori has been working as a small animal, general practicing veterinarian since graduating from Ross university in 2005. She has broadened her experience, and knowledge by working relief shifts at an emergency clinic, as well as a humane society. In addition she worked with Devry university in developing veterinary technician courses.

Her career goals are to continue working in this incredible field, to be able to stay current with new treatments and procedures, and to never loose sight of why she chose this career path in the first place: Her passion for the well being of animals.

Interview: Claudia Christian
Topic: The Sinclair Method for Alcoholism Treatment
Tune in to hear interview: Radio Station: 1160 AM WYLL - Chicago
This was an interview with film and TV actress, director, author, screenwriter, musician and songwriter, Claudia Christian. In addition to being a highly accomplished professional, Claudia is also an alcoholic.
She is the international spokesperson for an approach to alcoholism treatment that is a complete shift from the paradigm of abstinence. The Sinclair Method (TSM) uses a very inexpensive and safe medication to prevent a person from having the compulsion to drink excessively. In effect, it allows a person to be a social drinker.
Traditional abstinence plans and programs have as much as a 95% recidivism rate. Organizations such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) work hard and retain as many as 50% of their participating members but still have a very high recidivism rate. None of these plans or programs address the chemical driven compulsion to drink. The Sinclair Method does.

Date: Saturday, February 7, 2015
Interview: Dr. David Zeiger
Topic: Genetic testing and how it can be used to improve your Health
Interview: Radio Station: 1160 AM WYLL - Chicago
Interview with Dr. David Zeiger about genetic testing and how it can be used to improve your Health.

MTHFR (Methyltetrathydrofolate reductase) is an enzyme made by genes. This enzyme is responsible for allowing your body to repair DNA and RNA, make neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, produce hormones like estrogen, progesterone, help your immune system fight off bacteria, viruses, help your body get rid of toxic substances that you may be exposed to.
Your genetic codes can make either functional or poorly functional enzymes like MTHFR.

Genetic testing using either a simple blood test or swabbing the inside of your mouth cheek is all that is needed. Labs like 23andMe, Genomind, DNA Genetique™ by Desbio offers genetic testing. The results are then interpreted clinically by a trained physician to come up with the best treatment approach for your health needs.

There are different genes for different chemical, physiologic functions in the body. Genetic testing can reveal a person’s genetic risk for Obesity, Diabetes, Cancer, Hypertension, Alzheimer’s, ADHD, Depression, Anxiety as well as how well your body responds to aerobic vs anaerobic exercise, fats, carbohydrate, protein etc.

However, gene testing only represents the ‘potential’ risk for these diseases. Diet, Lifestyle, environmental toxins, stress, heavy metals, radiation can effect the actual expression or suppression this genetic information. MTHFR is an example of one such genetic mutation that effects your ability to use or not use folic acid, a B vitamin that comes from your diet, to make neurotransmitters, fight infection, lower homocysteine, help your body repair after injury. Those patients with an MTHFR mutation often benefit by getting the active form of folic acid called methyltetrhydrofolate in a supplement.
